Master of Science in Agricultural Education

The M.S. degree program offers students three options:

  • Creative Component Option: a program oriented toward improving a practitioner's professional proficiency in teaching, curriculum development, program planning and evaluations. The program of study should include courses and learning experiences that will develop the student's knowledge and skills in the processes of learning and teaching.
  • Teacher Certification Option: a program designed for individuals who have earned a Bachelor of Science degree in an agricultural discipline and desire initial teacher certification to teach agriculture at the secondary level.
  • Thesis Option: a research-oriented program focusing on designing and conducting research in the social sciences. The program of study should include courses and learning experiences that will maximize a student's progress in developing skills that will enable the student to continue his/her education in a research-oriented area.
Master's Program

The M.S. degree program consists of a minimum of 32 credits of graduate course work beyond the bachelor's degree. A minimum of 16 credits of course work must be in agricultural education.

A maximum of seven credits of graduate course work may be transferred from another institution or campus of the University of Missouri System upon the recommendation of the adviser, the approval of the department's director of graduate studies and the MU Graduate School. No more than eight credits of course work may be in problems or readings. A minimum of 16 credits of course work must be at the 400-level.

Eight credits must be completed on the MU campus, which allows for a number of credits to be earned through MU Extension courses.

A final comprehensive examination is required prior to graduation. All course work must be completed within an eight-year period.
