Master's Program Admissions

Application for Admission

Apply to the MU Graduate School.

Supporting Materials to be Submitted

Official Transcripts of all course work, undergraduate and graduate, from colleges and universities previously attended should be sent directly to the director of graduate studies, department of agricultural education. An undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 on the last 60 hours of undergraduate course work is required for admission.

Personal Data Sheet includes biographical and professional experience information. Professional goals, career objectives, motivation for graduate work, and other pertinent information are included.

Letters of Recommendation:

  • Applicants with less than a 3.0 grade point average on their last 60 hours of course work and international students must submit at least three letters of recommendation.

Letters should attest to an applicant's professional competence, academic preparation, and potential for graduate work in agricultural education. The letters should clearly reflect professional success and predict academic success at the graduate level.

At least one letter should be from a college or university faculty member who can speak in some detail of the applicant's academic aptitude; at least one should be from an administrator or colleague who can speak authoritatively of the applicant's professional experience and potential.

Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) Score:

  • If a domestic applicant has an overall grade point average of 3.0 and a 3.0 for the last 60 hours, no GRE score is required.
  • International students and students with less than a 3.0 (overall for last 60 hours) must take the exam.

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) Scores: Applicants whose native language is not English must submit scores on a TOEFL administered within the last two years.

  • A score of 500 or higher is required for admission.

Information on the GRE and TOEFL is available from Educational Testing Service (ETS).

Graduate Students Seeking Teacher Certification: If an applicant seeks admission to the M.S. degree program concurrently with the pursuit of an initial teaching certificate and the applicant's grade point average is between 2.75 and 3.0, the applicant must present a combined GRE Verbal and Quantitative score of at least 810. This score is considered to be the equivalent to the ACT score of 22 or the SAT of 900. Applicants admitted to the graduate program seeking certification must complete all certification requirements in addition to those required for the graduate degree program.

All requirements implicit in these criteria must be completed prior to consideration of an applicant for admission. A committee of faculty will review the credentials of all applicants. The committee frequently must use its judgment to discern from among those individuals who are judged to have the greatest potential for program success and ultimate contribution to the profession. Resource constraints may not permit the admission of all applicants who meet the minimum standards specified for the degree program.
